BowTech is a patented kinetic technology that enhances the natural mechanics of the foot, measurably boosting energy return while providing a healthier run. The glass fiber-reinforced Pebax infrastructure enhances propulsive locomotion by storing kinetic energy and releasing it during push-off and acceleration, while also supporting the foot’s windlass mechanism for added stability and control. The BowTech system provides acceleration boosts and higher energy returns while being supportive and ergonomic. The combination of increased support and power reduces load on muscles and joints, leaving you feeling lighter, more dynamic and less fatigued during long distance exertion.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this shoe right for me?

The Optaspeed BowTech is designed for ambitious runners who want speed and control in one intelligent system. It performs best during structured training sessions including tempo runs, progression runs, interval sessions, and longer steady efforts where propulsion, alignment, and repeatability need to work together.

WHAT KIND OF RUNS IS THE OPTASPEED BUILT FOR?

From controlled tempo runs to long, steady efforts under fatigue, the Optaspeed BowTech supports structured training where pace and precision are vital.

IS THE OPTASPEED BOWTECH A RACING SHOE?

Primarily a performance trainer, Optaspeed BowTech transitions confidently to race day—especially for runners who want control at higher speeds.

WHAT RUNNING STYLE IS THE SHOE BEST FOR?

The Optaspeed BowTech performs best for heel and midfoot runners, allowing the BowTech system and dual-density midsole to work optimally for propulsion, stability, and controlled transitions.

WHAT SURFACE IS THE OPTASPEED DESIGNED FOR?

The Optaspeed is designed primarily for road running, including pavement, track, and paved paths. It can also handle light gravel or smooth dirt paths, but it is not intended for technical trails or off-road terrain.

HOW LONG DOES THE SHOE LAST?

The BowTech system has been tested for durability beyond 620 miles, while the road-ready rubber outsole is built to last up to 500 miles.

BOWTECH TECHNOLOGY

IS BOWTECH A PLATE?

The patented BowTech kinetic technology uses dual plates to store energy during impact and forefoot load, releasing it explosively at push-off, driving you forward while guiding every stride along a centered, controlled forward momentum.

WHAT SETS BOWTECH APART?

BowTech works with your foot’s natural load and release instead of forcing a rigid ride. Its dual-plate design helps deliver responsive energy return, guided stability, and a centered stride from impact to push-off.

WHY DOES BOWTECH USE TWO PLATES INSTEAD OF ONE?

The dual-plate system allows BowTech to deliver propulsion and guided stability from the same system. By working with the foot’s natural load and release, it stores and releases energy efficiently while helping guide forces along a centered line of progression.

HOW IS BOWTECH DIFFERENT FROM A TRADITIONAL CARBON PLATE?

Unlike traditional carbon-plated shoes that rely on extreme stiffness, BowTech works with the foot’s natural windlass mechanism to deliver propulsion together with guided stability. This creates a more controlled, stable ride experience across a broader range of training paces, especially as fatigue builds.

HOW DOES THE MIDSOLE HELP?

The Optaspeed combines Supercritical N+Foam in the forefoot with EVA cushioning in the heel to create a balance of explosive propulsion, guided stability, and lasting comfort. The dual-density setup helps improve running form while reducing harsh impact over long distances.

DOES THE SHOE OFFER ARCH SUPPORT?

Yes. BowTech engages the foot’s natural windlass mechanism, tightening the arch at toe-off and supporting a centered, controlled line of progression throughout the stride.

FIT & HELPFUL TIPS

SIZE & FIT

The CEP Optaspeed fits true to running shoe size. We recommend ordering a half size up from your everyday casual shoe size.

LACING FOR A LOCKED-IN FIT

If you experience minor heel slippage, try using a runner’s knot (also called marathon or race-lock lacing) for a more secure heel fit without added pressure:

  1. Lace normally until the second-to-last eyelet
  2. Thread each lace into the top eyelet on the same side to create loops
  3. Cross each lace through the opposite loop
  4. Pull snug and tie as usual
FIT OPTIMIZATION

The Optaspeed is built for a precise, performance fit and works best with lightweight, moisture-wicking running socks. Pair with any CEP Run Sock to maximize comfort and complete the CEP system.

RACE ELIGIBILITY & COMPLIANCE

Yes. The CEP Optaspeed BowTech can be worn by recreational runners in major city marathons, as long as they are not competing for official records, rankings, or prize money. It has not been submitted for World Athletics approval, and event organizers may set their own equipment rules.

New everyday training shoe?

"I honestly really enjoyed these shoes as an every day training shoe. They weren’t the best shoe I’ve ever felt—I tend to like a more high cushioned shoe and this felt like more of a mid-high cushion. I struggle to find shoes that don’t leave my feet hurting and make me want to convert them to just a walking shoe, or a gift to someone else. I think beginners and experts alike could find success with these. I used them for a 5k workout along with just everyday easy runs and they did well! I got loads of compliments from teens and adults alike. Definitely a cool talking point and cool to introduce people to a new brand! I can’t wait to keep these in my rotation!"

Good trainer for short or long runs

"It was responsive with a good amount of cushion. I struggled to feel the quick turnover as other shoes when it came to quicker speed workouts or tempo runs. Things I noticed that I liked and wasn’t sure: The shoe felt stable when running with how much cushion was under the shoe. This is a plus and a thing that always scares some people with buying a high cushioned shoe. This shoes did it well I am a true 9 for majority of all shoe brands but felt this shoe was a bit tight. Maybe running a half size smaller than some other major brands. Upper hugged the foot well but super breathable and light, so a huge plus. Huge fan of the heel cup and felt it just held my foot very well in place without having to over lace it."

Neat!!

"I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you CEP!! Energy return/responsiveness: 9/10, it was crazy how springy it felt and I liked the Bow Tech in addition to the foam Comfort: 7/10 a bit narrow in the forefoot. My feet run on the wider side so I'd use these for short distance interval runs and sprints Looks: 8/10 not sure how I feel still about the see-thru mesh but I've gotten mixed reception from others, some think it's neat and others think it's wild ha. I love the safety vest yellow color though it is something I'd go for out in the wild Typical weekly mileage: 10-20mi so I've definitely put these to the test and they have broken in a bit since."

Good shoe, runs . 5-full size small

"I run about 35-45 miles a week, usually road & treadmill. I used this shoe for speed work along with daily runs to get a feel for it. Initial step in was . 5-full size too small. For my first run I wore thin socks thinking that would work…my feet disagreed. So the next runs I went sock less & it helped. Still was too small for my liking but more manageable. Underfoot it is not a soft shoe with I don’t hate. This is definitely a low volume narrow shoe, but it felt comfortable on my foot. Upper is breathable & comfortable. I was surprised at how heavy this shoe was. Looking at it I would think it was lighter but it was not. All in all this is a good shoe for speedier runs you just need to definitely size up!!!"

CEP Optaspeed Road Shoes

"I think CEP did an amazing job with these shoes. I can feel the Bowtech providing me with explosive energy on my runs. They are a neutral shoe, however I felt that I had a lot of support and cushioning in my strides. These shoes are clearly built for expert athletes who want high-performance road shoes. The midsole provided my heel with a lot of support. The shoe is excellent for summer runs, where I want the sweat to evaporate quickly through the lightweight upper. And these shoes are great for visibility! Be aware that the sizing is true to size. I had seen other places online to size up half or a full size, but that is just not true. Half size at the most."

Good shoe for a pro

"While I believe these are a great shoe, I don’t think my foot is the right fit for the shoe. They had a lot of pop Because of the plate in them, and I felt fast. But I found myself losing balance a lot. I did appreciate how much cushion was on them and the socks were very nice for compression. I think if you enjoy a lot of power and elevation, these are a good pair of shoes for you to look into. I could feel the bounce back in my heels and I appreciated that a lot. Again, it’s a lot of shoe so get ready to work with it! The socks again are a great combo and I love how they matched. If you’re looking for a race day shoe, make sure to break these puppies in. I also felt they ran a little small… I would maybe size up a half size."

Great Tempo Shoe!

"Theses shoes are very lightweight and bouncy! They make you feel really fast and give you a boost. I personally incorporated them into my marathon training as a tempo shoe and they’re great! They are very supportive and comfortable as well and all around a really good shoe. I enjoy them along witn the compression socks! I didn’t have any issues with comfort or foot pain when I wore them, even with them being so new. I am going to continue wearing these shoes in my training and would like to potentially race in them! The only thing I struggled with is the laces untieing sometimes, however, it’s easy to fix with a double knot! Overall a great shoe that I would recommend to runners especially those focused on speed. I received these shoes for free in return for an honest review."

At first glance you can

"At first glance you can already tell this shoe is different so I was very intrigued to see how it would actually perform. For reference, I predominantly run 4-7 miles on pavement a few times a week as well as use the treadmill at Orange Theory. This shoe is very light weight which was nice. I did not love that you can see through the top of the shoe, I’m used to a more structured top so I’m interested to see what I will think of these in the long run. They have a lot of cushion and bounce but feel stable enough to use in a strength class at the gym. I wore these side by side with my normal running shoes and one thing that really stuck out to me was all the room in the heel yet it did not slip off. I have very narrow feet and am a mid foot/heel striker and I feel like these worked well. I’ve only had them for a week but am excited to keep running in them! I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review."

Comfortable, responsive and stable

"I ran approximately 11 miles over three runs in this shoe from speed drills to community runs. Not only is this shoe super cool looking it's also really soft and structured to the foot and provided overall great support. Overall the fit of this shoe was a little tighter compared to the shoes I normally run in but it wasn't a bad thing. My foot felt secure and the base felt stable. I noticed before I ran in these shoes that my big toe joint was bothering while running in other shoes but once I started running in these shoes I no longer felt the pain while running. While I was doing the speed runs these shoes were super responsive and felt like a true fast shoe. although when I was running at a slower pace they didn't feel as responsive. I think these shoes are particularly helpful for faster road runs and races but not for slower community runs Overall I liked them and would recommend them. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review."

Optaspeed Wear Test

"The fit is definitely on the narrow-to-standard side, as advertised, but I found the shoe to run a little short. During my runs, I noticed quite a bit of rubbing around the back of my heel, which became uncomfortable and made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the shoe. One thing I did appreciate was how lightweight the Optaspeed felt. The low weight made me feel fast and unrestricted. However, despite being lightweight, I didn't get the smooth, natural transition I was hoping for, and the shoe felt somewhat clunky to me while running. Overall, the Optaspeed has some appealing qualities, particularly its lightweight construction and streamlined fit. However, based on my experience, the fit and ride didn't work particularly well for me. I think trying the shoe on before purchasing would be a good idea, especially for runners who are sensitive to heel fit or prefer a little extra room in the toe box. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review."
